The Day of Pentecost

Pentecost or Whitsuntide, also known as “The birthday of the church” falls on fiftieth Sunday after Easter and is depicted as the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the followers of Jesus Christ.

As Christians, we are expected to live our lives in the presence of God’s Holy Spirit and power. Pentecost is an opportunity to reflect upon our daily lives.

It is a time to consider our participation in the fellowship, worship, and mission of our church. It is also a renewal of our commitment to live as essential members of the body of Christ using our gifts to build our church and share the love and justice of Christ with the world.

The liturgical color is red in celebration of “The joy and fire of the Holy Spirit, and the congregation is encouraged to wear red.” The symbols of the Holy Spirit include flames, the wind, and a dove.
