Each day during March, we celebrate the contributions 31 women have made and recognize their specific achievement as bishop in the Episcopal Church.
Today we celebrate Bishop DeDe Duncan-Pope of the Diocese of Central New York
The first woman to serve as chief priest and pastor of the diocese, Duncan-Probe has said she intends to foster dialogue and reach out to diverse communities in the region. The Rt. Rev. Dr. DeDe Duncan-Probe was consecrated as the 11th Bishop of Central New York on December 3, 2016. Prior to entering ordained ministry, Bishop DeDe had a successful career in education and business. She began her professional life as an educator, teaching in public and private schools, including 2 years working with inner-city at-risk youth in Los Angeles, California. In 1994, she founded a grant-writing agency that successfully funded a counseling program for at-risk teens in the San Mateo Court and Community Schools of California.

“All bishops of the Episcopal Church, active or retired, make up the House of Bishops. Like the governing body of the United States, the governing body of the Episcopal Church (called “the General Convention”) is comprised of two Houses: the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies. They meet and act separately, and both Houses must concur to adopt legislation. General Convention meets every three years, and the House of Bishops meets twice a year between conventions in a non-legislative capacity. The Presiding Bishop is the president of the House of Bishops.”
