Honoring Detroit’s Historic William Lambert

William Lambert, a Detroit businessman, helped to organize St. Matthew’s Church, a mission congregation of the Episcopal Church. St. Matthew’s was one of three pre-Civil War black communities actively aiding freedom-seekers.

In recognition of his exemplary leadership in the Underground Railroad, he along with nine other men and women of color will be commemorated on a Forever Stamp.
