A Mission-Driven Parish: A Bible Study based on our Mission Statement

Join Reverend Anthony Estes for a Bible Study based on our Mission Statement. Participants will learn skills to reflect on their daily lives using tools from the Anglican theological tradition. They will gain insight into the parish mission statement by examining critical phrases through the lens of Scripture and learning skills for thematic Bible study. They’ll also explore how the faith community can improve at gathering, being transformed, and being sent back into the world in the power of the Holy Spirit. Sessions are 90 minutes long from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Week 1:   August 29

  • Introduction to Theological Reflection
    • What is theological reflection, and why is it important? What is the Anglican Theological Tradition? What evidence of theological reflection is in the Scripture? to studying New Testament Letters and studying Backgrounds.

Week 2:   September 5

  • Committed Stewards – Biblical and Theological Foundations
    • How can we gather biblical citations that reveal what it means to be committed stewards? What do you think about being a steward today?

Week 3:   September 12

  • Strengthening our Faith – The Role of Transformation
    • How are we strengthened in our faith? How do we experience spiritual growth and transformation? How do you track this in your life?

Week 4:   September 19

  • Serving the Community – Gathering for Mission
    • Why is it essential that we gather as a community? How do we define community? What examples from the Scriptures can we follow as an example of serving our community? How do we serve and how can we be even better servants?

Week 5:   September 26

  • Spreading His Love – Sent to Serve
    • How and why are we being sent out? To where? How can we better live out this part of our mission statement in our personal and congregational lives?

Week 6:   October 3

  • Integrating out Learning – A Renewed Mission
    • This is a recap of what we’ve learned so far, discussing Gather Transform Send as a congregational model alongside our mission statement.

Materials will be available at least one week prior to the study dates.  For general questions, please contact Rev. Estes (313) 505 – 9113
